Shafinaaz Hassim

Shafinaaz Hassim is a sociologist and author based in South Africa. Her works have been commended in various local and international awards, including the SALA K Sello Duiker Award, the UJ Prize for Creative Writing in English and the MAHLA Awards. In 2014 she was listed by UNESCO and the London Book Fair as one of the Top 39 authors in Africa under 40. Her winning contribution, “The Pink Oysters” was published in the AFRICA39: New Writing from Africa South of the Sahara anthology by Bloomsbury UK. She is also the author of the Nisa Qamar series for young adults, shortlisted for the MAHLA Awards and the prestigious Sanlam Youth Literature Award 2019.
