Get Up, Stand Up

Cedella Marley & Bob Marley

The music of Bob Marley has inspired listeners from all over the world with messages of peace, love, and truth. In this empowering adaptation of one of his most loved songs, a new generation can take heart from his joyful call to action, which shows that the way to counter injustice is to lift others up with kindness and courage.

As a young girl and her friends go through the school day, they encounter several challenging situations. But by taking Marley's message and words to heart, the children are able to work through their conflicts. Adapted by Cedella Marley, Bob Marley's eldest child, and exuberantly illustrated by John Jay Cabuay, GET UP, STAND UP is a vibrant and encouraging testament to the power we all have to make a difference and stand up for what's right.

Includes a letter to readers from Cedella Marley, talking about why the message of the song and the book is so important.

Bob Marley is notable not only as the man who put reggae on the global map, but as a statesman in his native Jamaica who famously brought together the country's warring factions. He passed in 1981. In 1994, Marley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2001, he was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Today, Bob Marley remains one of the 20th century's most important and influential entertainment icons, and his lifestyle and music continue to inspire new generations as his legacy lives on through his music. She lives in Miami, Florida, with her husband and three sons. Cedella is the author of several picture books, including adaptations of her father's songs, "One Love" and "Three Little Birds."

John Jay Cabuay's passion for drawing came at an early age through his love of comics and anime.
