Apollon Davidson

Apollon Davidson is Professor of Russia’s National Research University Higher School of Economics and head of the African Studies Centre of the Institute of General History (Russian Academy of Sciences). From 1994-1998 he was director of the Centre for Russian Studies at the University of Cape Town. He is the Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and holder of the South African Order of the Companions of O R Tambo.


Apollon is the author of 16 books and about 600 articles on Africa, South Africa, Russia and the relations between the two countries. Apollon was the Hugh le May fellow at Grahamstown University. Irina and Apollon have also recently published a two-volume history of Russian-South African relations in Russian. Both were fellows of the Southern African Research Programme at Yale University.
