Barend Peter Jacobus Erasmus was born on December 15, 1930. He acquires degrees in classical and modern languages ​​at the universities of Stellenbosch and Cape Town, the latter acquires summa cum laude. He carries a large part of his career in the diplomatic service in The Hague and London, where he is among other things information attaché. He is also editor of several magazines, including Panorama . He moved in 1989 after retirement from Pretoria to Philipstown, a town in the Upper Karoo. He is married and his four children all have university degrees and have all emigrated to abroad, his son Johan died in 2007. He died on February 8, 2012.
